Last updated: February 14, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using BrokenApp.io ("BrokenApp," "the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

BrokenApp provides automated web application scanning services that detect bugs, security vulnerabilities, performance issues, and broken functionality in publicly accessible web applications. The Service includes a web-based interface, command-line tool (CLI), scan reports, and the Clean Code Challenge competition.

3. Authorization to Scan

By submitting a URL for scanning, you represent and warrant that:

  • You own the application or have explicit authorization from the owner to scan it
  • The scan will not violate any applicable laws or third-party agreements
  • You accept responsibility for any consequences of scanning the submitted application

BrokenApp only interacts with publicly accessible pages and endpoints. We do not attempt to bypass authentication, access private data, or exploit vulnerabilities. Our scans are non-destructive and read-only in nature.

4. User Accounts

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Scan applications you do not own or are not authorized to test
  • Use the Service to conduct denial-of-service attacks or other malicious activities
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service
  • Resell, sublicense, or redistribute scan reports without authorization
  • Use the Service in any manner that could interfere with or disrupt other users
  • Submit false information or impersonate another person or entity

6. Clean Code Challenge

Participation in the Clean Code Challenge is subject to the following additional terms:

  • Participants must be at least 18 years of age
  • Submitted projects must be real applications owned by the participant
  • Participants agree to share progress publicly as described in the challenge rules
  • Prize distribution is at the sole discretion of BrokenApp based on published judging criteria
  • BrokenApp reserves the right to disqualify entries that violate these terms or the spirit of the competition
  • Winners are responsible for any applicable taxes on prizes

7. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, features, content, and underlying technology, is owned by BrokenApp and protected by intellectual property laws. Your scan reports are yours — you may use, share, or delete them as you see fit. By participating in the Clean Code Challenge, you grant BrokenApp permission to reference your public posts and aggregate scan data in research publications.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. BrokenApp does not guarantee that scans will detect all bugs, vulnerabilities, or issues in your application. Scan reports should not be considered a comprehensive security audit or substitute for professional penetration testing.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, BrokenApp shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or business opportunities, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for violation of these terms or for any reason at our discretion. You may discontinue use of the Service at any time. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately.

11. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated via email or prominent notice on the Service. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
